This Little Falls, NY location is a short detour from my usual route to my older daughter’s college. On my way to pick her up from finishing her first year, I stopped by and explored the trails.
To get to Moss Island, park beneath the bridge that leads into downtown Little Falls and climb up and over Lock 17, the tallest lock in the Erie Canal system (right by the parking area sits old Lock 13).
Once you’ve climbed up and over the Lock, take a right and you’ll see the entrance to the island trails. Once on the trails, meander about to see the gneiss formations and glacial potholes.
