I visited this one with my older daughter. She’s visiting from college and graciously accompanied me today. It was lovely walking around with her.
One of the trails here is closed until next month, so I’ll come back for that one later and add it to the end of this post.
Lowell was the first factory town in the USA and contributed to the technological revolution with its textile mills and man-made canal system. Initially, most of the factory workers were young local farm women. Then, starting with the Potato Famine, waves of immigrants arrived and became a significant part of the workforce.
A network of city trails runs alongside the canals. We enjoyed our meandering.

Went back and finished this site by visiting the Northern Canal Walkway. The cubic flow rate for the river has to be below 3500 for this walkway to be open. Check the LNHP website for how to check about this before you arrive.
The Lowell Canals, or at least part of them (the website isn’t clear), are “a” National Recreation Trail.
