April 2, 2023. My last stop during this day’s RI extravaganza was John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge. You can’t hike in the refuge itself; you can take a boat on its waterways, but this hiker didn’t have a kayak with me. Instead, I walked the two trails listed on the refuge’s website. Those trails take you right to the edge of the refuge, and put together they are less than a mile long. One of them is actually just a short gated road.
