Visited Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge yesterday, January 27, 2025. My favorite NWR in MS thus far, mainly because it has a bunch of maintained hiking trails. I did all of them except one that was closed and another that was in a hunting zone. It is still deer season with firearms, and the hunters are everywhere.
January 28, 20205. Hiked the fourth open segment of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail this morning, Blackland Prairie section near Tupelo, MS. Nearly six miles each way, so about twelve miles as an out-and-back starting at the northern end. Extremely well maintained, which was a nice change from the other segments! The last few tenths of a mile were closed. I saw on Apple Maps that there might be a reroute, and I walked part of that, but I am not sure I got it exactly right. Did my best.
