Ice Age Trail. Summit Moraine segment and the first 1.4 miles (westbound) of Highland Lakes segment. April 19, 2025.

Started the day with a long bike ride to get to the trailhead. I am getting stronger with my bike skills.

First got the last tenth of a mile of Lumbercamp that I accidentally skipped the day before. I had gone straight through the woods instead of following the trail. Fixed that today.

Next came the Summit Moraine segment. Going west, the trail all the way to Game Lake was free of blowdowns. Beautiful trail. Single track, woods, ponds/lakes, nice camping spots.

The blowdowns started at Game Lake and extended all the way to the end of the segment. Not nearly as bad as Kettlebowl, though. Crews are on it and clearing it all up. I hiked this segment Easter weekend to avoid heavy machinery at Veterans Park since I didn’t want to be in anyone’s way. That worked, the crew wasn’t working when I went through.

Almost lost an eye at one point. Got whacked by a branch as I walked. Was paying attention to the lake and not the trail. Oops.

Virtual hike can be found on my YouTube channel Trish Ellis Travels. A reminder that I am not trying to be an influencer – the videos are there for anyone who wants to get a sense of the trail before/instead of hiking it themselves, and as another way for me to a) reminisce later and b) keep track of my personal progress. Therefore there is no music or polish, etc. It’s just me, my footsteps, and my occasional commentary.
