August 15, 2023. This is not Battell Woods, which is close by and nicely trailed. This is, instead, a virgin hemlock-northern hardwood stand located, according to sources found on the internet, on a steep and rocky mountain slope with GPS coordinates that put it east of Route 116 and southeast of the trailhead for Abbey Pond. I originally planned to bushwhack to the general area, but the road to Abbey Pond trailhead was closed due to water damage, and there is no other public access to the area that I could find. I had to settle on taking a bunch of photos of what I hope are some of the correct trees from Quarry Road. The stand is in there somewhere.
