Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park (RI)

April 24, 2023

After walking the tow path in Lincoln, I drove the short distance to the Old Slater Mill and walked around the buildings and read the information signs. The mill was the first water-powered textile mill in America and is said to have ushered in the American Industrial Age. It spun cotton for over a hundred years until the mill closed in the late 1800s. Machinery is still housed inside the mills, and during the summer one can go inside the buildings and look around. Some of what is inside can be seen through the windows, so I still got a decent glimpse even though I visited off-season.

The Blackstone River Bikeway, a National Recreation Trail that I walked earlier this month, is part of this Historical Park, as is the material covered in my Heritage Corridor post.
