Boston African American National Historic Site

March 23, 2022

I got to share the 1.5-mile Black Heritage Trail with my youngest daughter; we both enjoyed walking through Beacon Hill and seeing the 18th and 19th Century homes of notable Black patriots, veterans, and civil rights leaders as well as stops on the Underground Railroad. Unfortunately, the Museum of African American History was closed in spite of the website saying it was open, but we still learned a lot from the free pamphlet we picked up at the Visitor Center in the Boston Common.

For more information on these structures and the history of this area, see https://www.nps.gov/thingstodo/explore-the-black-heritage-trail.htm.

That’s it for me for the city of Boston except for the islands, which I hope to get to this summer. Feels kind of good to be finished with this city. It’s lovely, but I’m ready to move on.
