Virgin Falls National Recreation Trail. TN

Last hike in TN until the fall. Almost finished everything on my list east of Nashville on this trip. Today I hiked Virgin Falls National Recreation Trail down to the falls, which emerges from a cave up high and plummets 110 feet into another cave below. Hiking the 1000+ feet of elevation loss into the gorge over four miles didn’t feel too bad, but the high humidity and warm weather kicked my butt on the return ascent. Had to dunk my head in a stream to cool off on the way back to the car. The hike is a popular one, saw lots of people. Nice purple wildflowers (phacelia, I think) in bloom.

Heading north soon for some routine doc appointments, then I’ll work on NY state goals for a few weeks before doing some more international travel.
