Red-winged blackbirds and geese flew about and made a lot of noise today as I walked the easy and scenic trails at this NWR. It was an enjoyable visit. So many birds! I am not a professional photographer, so I didn’t get great shots, but I did love walking among the beautiful winged critters.
The NWR website isn’t correct with the number of trails. I did all the ones at this site – there are two long-ish ones (over a mile) that go in different directions once you are across the main center path, then a bunch of shorter ones on one end and a short loop trail near the parking lot. They’re all great. Total mileage for all felt less than four miles, and it is mostly flat.
Edit – there are other parts to the Concord Unit, and I went back on May 5 and tried to access those parts. I could only access the trail off Route 4 (depicted in second set of photos). Other parts noted on the website are now closed to the public or exist in areas surrounded by private property with no way, that I could see, for people to park and access.
By the way, this whole area northwest of Boston is GORGEOUS. Lots of state parks, a few NWRs, and green in general.
