One giant milestone just passed. I dropped my oldest daughter off at college the day before visiting this site. Though I will miss her, it was time for her to move on. She was ready, and I was ready. I look forward to the next stage of our mother-daughter relationship, one which will feature us more as equals and me getting to know her as an adult. She’s a wise, strong, kind, intelligent, and beautiful human being, and I have no doubt she is going to do just fine in whatever she chooses to do. I wish her all the best, and I am so happy and excited for her.
Now I have one remaining daughter at home. My main job over the next two years is to get her ready for college and for life as an adult in general. I will continue to fit in my LifeQuest goals as I can during those two years. Then, after she leaves (and assuming our elderly cat has passed away by then), I will pursue my LifeQuest full time. And write, of course (but not about my travels, outside of this blog).
Fort Stanwix in Rome, NY, is not far from my oldest daughter’s college. I stopped by on a rainy Wednesday and took my time looking around. The park rangers were kind and informative. This fort was used in the Revolutionary War, and information signs were plentiful. This fort never fell to the British in spite of a prolonged siege. Also, the fort lies along a major trade route used by the Oneida Native Americans. Coincidentally, it also lies along the North Country Trail. A friend who is hiking the NCT was just here a couple of weeks ago.
What follows is just a small sample of info/rooms/sights to see. I will never post a ton of photos for any particular site because you should go see all these sites for yourself.
