Black Creek National Recreation Trail. Near Brooklyn, Mississippi. I did this 41-mile hike over the course of five days on March 16, 17, 19, 20, and 21, 2025. Loved it. Needs maintenance, but I found that aspect entertaining as opposed to irritating. These photos give an example of the terrain. Watch for snakes – the one shown here (black racer?) was right by the trail. I put my foot down next to it before I saw it and am grateful the nope-noodle didn’t strike.
Video of the full hike on my fledgling YouTube channel, Trish Ellis Travels. https://youtu.be/RoqYmE0IROY?si=1BsY0FC0Hf_FAM7A
From the USDA Forest Service website: “Discover the hidden beauty of the piney woods in the Gulf Coastal Plain by hiking one of Mississippi’s longest and most challenging trails…The trail climbs over rolling hills and meanders down through the flat land of the Black Creek flood plain. Over 100 bridges and boardwalks have been constructed to provide crossing over small streams and ponds. Approximately 10 miles of the trail is located in the Black Creek Wilderness.“ https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mississippi/recarea/?recid=82488
