After visiting Hawley Bog, I drove the short distance to Mohawk Trail State Forest and parked along busy Route 2 for access into the Cold River Virgin Forest National Natural Landmark. The only way to access this landmark is by walking the Mahican-Mohawk Trail, a historical hundred-mile Native American path, from Route 2 toward Cold River. I hiked the trail down toward the river, and I know I entered the landmark’s boundaries and walked through the trailed part of the forest, but I am not sure if I got photos of any of the 400+-year-old trees or of the trees that are some of the tallest in Massachusetts. If the photos here are of the wrong sort, then my apologies.
