Ell Pond National Natural Landmark (RI)

April 2, 2023. Drove down to Rhode Island to visit a bunch of RI LifeQuest sites. First stop was Ells Pond, a National Natural Landmark.

The trail leading into the landmark area is a spur off Narragansett Trail, and the fastest way to it is via the North Road Trailhead. Driving to that trailhead reminded me of reaching some of those remote trails in NH – the road is narrow, rutted, and only suitable for high-clearance vehicles. My Subaru handled it just fine.

The trail surprised me. It felt quite White Mountain-y with its short rock scrambles and rough footing. Of course, the vegetation is different. Rhododendron trees are everywhere. I enjoyed walking through them; I bet when everything blooms, this trail is going to be downright breathtaking.
