14.7 miles
Met a section hiker named Tim who is getting off trail tomorrow. It’s been an unusually wet April, and he was looking forward to getting out of the constant mud and rain.
There’s an out-and-back section on Grandfather Falls that everyone seems to hate. I didn’t mind it. I think it is going to eventually connect to Underdown and eliminate the long road walk.
I am enjoying doing the Ice Age Trail as constant day hikes this time around. Have to say I haven’t noticed the near-nightly rain of late since I have not been camping in it. That being said, biking 10-14 miles on the roads (some of which are quite hilly and gravel/dirt/mud) and then immediately hiking 10-15 miles on the trail back to the car day after day is tiring. It’s a trade-off. There are pros and cons to both methods (backpacking vs this drive-bike-hike thang), they are each different experiences.
