Dockery Farms, which Will Dockery built in 1895. The successful farm produced cotton and housed four hundred African American tenant families. Blues musicians came and played for free outside, then would move into one of the houses and charge for entry. Charley Patton, the “Father of Delta Blues” lived and worked at Dockery for decades. The farm became known as the birthplace of the blues.

Jim Henson’s Delta Boyhood Museum. Jim Henson spent his early childhood attending elementary school in Leland, MS. There is a small museum honoring him, and admission is free (donation suggested).
