Moosalamoo National Recreation Area

Multiple visits (scroll down)

First visit: June 15, 2023. Did a 10-ish mile loop around Silver Lake in Moosalamoo National Recreation Area (Vermont). Easy terrain, green tunnel, and biting hungry mosquitoes and blackflies, but it was still nice to walk in the woods. Minnie Baker-Leicester Hollow-Chandler Ridge Trails. The trails all needed some brushing.

June 30, 2023. Oak Ridge Trail to Mount Moosalamoo. Around 14 miles roundtrip with about 1000 feet of elevation gain.

What a humid day! Made constant use of my bandana and wiped a ton of sweat from my head every thirty seconds. Also made the mistake of not applying DEET before tromping through an extended overgrown road section and was bitten by every type of bug in the northeast. Within the woods themselves, mosquitos rarely let up, even after I sprayed myself with OFF.

Made it up to the viewless summit and then walked the short distance to the southern viewpoint, where a young fellow who had come up another trail sat peacefully whittling. The bugs didn’t like the taste of him I guess, since I could not be still for long without getting swarmed. The view consisted of neighboring small mountains through a slight haze from the Canadian wildfire smoke that has drifted down to the States.
