Moss Lake Bog National Natural Landmark (NY)

May 18, 2025

While finishing up a long NY National Recreation Trail (tomorrow’s post), I noticed that a National Natural Landmark was just a smidgeon away from where I’d parked my rental. I stopped by Moss Lake Bog NNL on the way back to my AirBnB.

Moss Lake Bog is part glacial kettle lake and part acidic bog. The bog formed when sphagnum moss grew over part of the water. The Nature Conservancy manages the surrounding preserve area, and there’s a nice mile-long trail through the woods around the water.

I also drove as close as I could get to no-public-access Fall Brook Gorge NNL.
