North and South Rivers National Natural Landmark (MA)

January 31, 2023

On my way back to NH from the Cape, I stopped by two sites to visit both the North and South Rivers. These two rivers were designated a NNL in 1977 due to their extensive marshlands and unpolluted status (rare so close to a major city like Boston).

My first stop was a small place right off Route 139 in Marshfield, MA. South River Park is a spot to stretch your legs, pay tribute to veterans, and enjoy the sight of the South River from a nicely constructed boardwalk.

A visit to the North River Wildlife Sanctuary, also in Marshfield, came next. This Mass Audubon site offers the happy wanderer ample parking, easy field and wooded trails, and well-maintained boardwalks.
