More Connecticut ramblings –
Yesterday (Jan 28) was cold and rainy and therefore a good day to find things on my list that did not require much walking.
After sloshing around Lebanon Green, I drove to Pachaug-Great Meadow Swamp National Natural Landmark (first two photos), an extensive Atlantic white cedar swamp. There are no trails into the landmark, but one can access it by boat if one is so inclined.
Next was a stop by Pawcatuck River on the border of CT/Rhode Island. The river is part of the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Wild and Scenic River system. (Photos three and four). Highlight of this stop was getting to that bridge without getting hit by speeding traffic; there were no parking areas close to the access point.
Last was an attempt to enter the Roger Tory Peterson Unit of Silvio O. Conte NWR (migratory bird stopover and nesting habitat). It seems the whole thing is surrounded by private land or roads with no parking. I slowed down and snapped this photo from my car. (Last picture)
