A short entry today. Old Canterbury Road in Plainville, CT is part of the 1781 march route of Rochambeau’s army from Newport, RI to first New York, where they joined Washington’s troops, and then to Williamsburg, VA, where the combined forces joined Lafayette’s men and engaged in the seize of Yorktown.
I love little spots like this. Feels like treasure-hunting. I did not see signs marking the area, and I imagine people drive by all the time not knowing the history. I learned about this road from a local historical society’s website.
I’m doing a ton of CT sites later this month and in March.
