January 11, 2025. This is an active hunting and fishing refuge, but Magnolia Trail is within a no-hunting zone. It doesn’t seem like many people come here to hike though, since the online and paper trail maps a) contradict each other and b) have a figurative relationship with reality.
Magnolia Trail was once a well maintained four-ish miles, you can tell by the wide path, the rope handrails, and a pond viewing platform that is now falling apart. The NRT sign is faded and not at the current trailhead. There is currently one small section of trail that is badly eroded and needs rerouting. It was still a nice walk in the woods, but the trail has seen better days.
Smaller and narrower trails branch off from Magnolia at the northern and southern ends. Not much to see except another water view near the south.
