April 2, 2023. After visiting Ninigret NWR, I drove the short distance to Trustom Pond NWR. This gorgeous refuge has 2.4 miles of trail (you’ll hike a bit more than that considering the need to double back on sections) and offers excellent views of Block Island Sound. This a popular place, so get there early if you visit on the weekend and want to be assured of a parking space. I lucked out and snagged a spot just as someone was leaving.
I think the large nest on the tiny island in the water belongs to two Bald Eagles. I zoomed in on it to take a photo with my iPhone, and then zoomed in on the photo itself. This is the best I could do as I am not a photographer. I included another photo of what looks like one of the two eagles bringing a large fish to the nest.
