The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor – Publick House Historic Inn, Sturbridge, MA

January 2, 2023

Had a great holiday with my daughters and am now ready to embark on another year of part-time LifeQuesting. Full-time can’t come soon enough.

Checked off Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor by visiting Sturbridge, MA’s Publick House Historic Inn.

Publick House was constructed by Colonel Ebenezer Crafts in 1771 after Crafts won the land in a card bet. It was originally a roadside inn catering to Revolutionary War soldiers, including General Lafayette. It has been in continued use for over 250 years, though it spent some time as a women’s boarding house called The Elms and a training center for WW2 soldiers before being restored to its original glory by Richard Paige…who also won the land (and the building) in a card bet.

The House is a popular spot for public functions and meals as well as overnight stays. The two restaurants hold historical artifacts, and the bake shoppe sells homemade treats.
