Spent the last few days (August 10-13, 2026) hiking the Fred J Cusimano Westside Overland National Recreation Trail in the far southwest corner of New York. Lots of farmland, forested rolling hills, and Amish property. I had never been to this part of NY before, all the way over close to both PA and Lake Erie. Such a different vibe from the other parts of the state. Feels similar to rural PA.
The trail is well-maintained, usually fairly wide, and well signed/blazed. It’s a pleasant trek in the woods with a few short country road walks. The trail is 24 miles, but I did about 40 when you count the out-and-backs and loop hikes using roads.
My knee/leg is almost 100% now. I think it has finally recovered from the AT.
