August 8, 2026. I’ve been switching back and forth between North Country/Finger Lakes Trail hikes and my other NY goals. I’m almost finished the Finger Lakes Trail hikes and will post a summary in a few days.
I’ve also been spending a lot of time planning my international travels for Dec 2026 – November 2027. Three continents and 20-25 territories, 8 of which I have visited before (but never as a solo 50+ year old). I love planning everything out. The research is part of the fun. Comparing prices of different lodgings, exploring what to do and where exactly I want to be, researching everything I can about the specific cultural and safety aspects, figuring out the best ways to get everywhere, etc. Transport will include a handful of commercial flights, lots of ferries, lots of trains, a small expedition ship, a small motorboat, buses, perhaps two taxis, and a small chartered jet. And, of course, my feet.
What does this have to do with what I did today? Nothing. Today I visited Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site in Buffalo, NY. The building is the former Ansley Wilcox home, and it is where Roosevelt was sworn in as President following the assassination of William McKinley at the nearby Pan-American Exposition.
